BRICS International School: New Generation Opened in India

On March 5, a special program of the BRICS International School: New Generation was launched in Delhi, timed to coincide with India's 2026 BRICS Chairship. The program was organized by the BRICS Expert Council-Russia, HSE University, jointly with the Russian House in New Delhi, and with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The school brought together 200 young leaders, including students from leading Indian universities, as well as representatives of expert, public, and youth organizations.

The opening ceremony was attended by Victoria Panova, Head of the BRICS Expert Council‑Russia and Vice Rector at HSE University, Mikhail Pontser, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, and Elena Remizova, Head of the Russian House in New Delhi.
In her address, Victoria Panova underscored the pivotal role of young people in shaping the future of international cooperation. She said:
"When we speak about the BRICS School and the significance of your presence here, we mean that BRICS is, first and foremost, you. It is up to you to determine how meaningful and relevant this platform will be in the years ahead. This School offers you not only the chance to meet one another and build friendships, but also to become part of a broader network of young people from all BRICS countries and beyond."
Continuing the discussion on BRICS's growing role in global affairs, Mikhail Pontser addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of actively engaging youth in shaping the future of global governance. He shared:
"I appeal to all of you—bright young minds—to take an active part in this dialogue and to contribute bold ideas and fresh perspectives. It is your energy that BRICS needs to build the multipolar, just, equitable, and inclusive future we all strive for."
In her welcome address, Elena Remizova emphasized the importance of youth dialogue and international educational initiatives for strengthening cooperation among the BRICS nations.
"We are delighted to see so many young guests at the Russian House today, because young people are the future of our countries. And together we will decide what this future will look like. In the year of India's BRICS Chairship, holding events such as the BRICS International School: New Generation is especially significant. Here, young people from different countries can meet, discuss important issues, and gain motivation for their future development."
The key highlight of Day 1 was Victoria Panova's lecture on the role of BRICS in the global arena. She outlined the main goals and objectives of the group, the evolution of dialogue among member countries, the expansion process, key projects across various areas of intra-BRICS cooperation, and the group's future development prospects.
"BRICS has traditionally pursued a positive and inclusive agenda—unlike international clubs such as the G7. BRICS does not seek to confront the West. Instead, the group is focused on strengthening cooperation among countries of the Global South. It is this approach that explains the growing interest in BRICS: more than 40 countries have expressed a desire to join or deepen their engagement with the group."
On Day 2, participants will take part in a rich and vibrant program featuring meetings with experts, networking opportunities, and an awards ceremony.
The BRICS International School: New Generation is the flagship educational and outreach initiative of the BRICS Expert Council‑Russia. Its goal is to cultivate a pool of talented young specialists from BRICS and partner countries—leaders of the new generation. The project has been implemented since 2017 with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
